A Lip Smacker Vault is Coming!

Photo: PopSugar
When I think of Lip Smackers, I'm immediately taken back to 4th grade. That year, the day before the holiday break, my best friend Prudence had given me a Lip Smacker Gift Set that had three different flavors in a candy cane-shaped tube...Dr. Pepper, Black Cherry, and Strawberry.  The Dr. Pepper was my favorite and I ended up losing it on the playground that day. We looked everywhere but I'm pretty sure another girl must have grabbed it and kept it for herself.
I haven't used one in forever but I still think of that Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker fondly, so when I saw that they're coming out with a Lip Smacker Vault this holiday season, my inner lip balm addict did a little happy dance!

Launching November 28th exclusively on the Lip Smacker website, the vault will contain 36 regular sized lip balms, and six "Biggies" which are jumbo-sized balms. Some of the flavors are classics while others are brand new. It's going to cost $50 (a $95 value) and is limited edition, so if you want one, be sure to log on to LipSmacker.com the day of the launch so you don't miss out.

Flavors include:

  • Vanilla
  • Watermelon
  • Dr. Pepper
  • Berry Peach
  • Bubble Gum
  • Cherry
  • Cotton Candy
  • Tropical Punch
  • Mango
  • Strawberry Cotton Candy

Too Faced Funfetti Set Now Live!

The Too Faced Funfetti Set ($55) has already launched on HSN.com! It was supposed to be the Today's Special for tomorrow, 11/11 but there's a presale going on right now. I'm not sure if it will sell out ahead of the "official" launch or if they'll be holding some quantities back to release tonight but either way...if you want this set, buy it now, don't wait!

This set includes:

  • .36 oz. Funfetti Eye Shadow Palette
  • .21 oz. Love Flush Blush - Funfetti (brightening peachy pink shade)
  • .10 fl. oz. Funfetti Lip Gloss - Mocha Freeze (bronze)
  • .27 fl. oz. Better Than Sex Mascara - Black
  • Heart Flatbuki Brush

Eyeshadow Colors:
  • Feelin' Good - matte bone
  • Life's A Party - silvered lilac
  • Sequin - sparkling orchid
  • Over-Served - matte mauve gray
  • Forever Young - matte peach
  • Party Crasher - medium cool brown
  • Funfetti - pink champagne
  • Girl Gang - gilded brown
  • Pop, Fizz, Clink! - matte cream
  • After Party - antique gold
  • You're So Fancy - matte soft fawn
  • All Nighter - charcoal with gold sparkle

I did order one for review but this will probably sell out before I can get it and swatch it for you. To give you the most information possible, I want to let you know that the Blush and Lip Gloss are made in the USA, the Better Than Sex mascara is made in Italy and the Palette is made in China. That makes me a little bit nervous that the palette quality will be similar to the holiday sets. That being said, HSN has an awesome return policy so if it's not great, just return it, no questions asked!

Overall, I'm hoping I'll like this set but I'm feeling cautious right now. I know I'm going to like the blush at least! I really wish they had done marbled eyeshadows (like the blush). That would have really made the Funfetti theme and been something a little "different" than just another neutral eyeshadow palette. What do you guys think?

Grab yours now at HSN.com and if you're a new HSN customer, use code Holiday10 to save $10 on orders over $20.

Too Faced Funfetti Set Launches November 11th

Finally...we have a date! The Funfetti Collection that Too Faced creator Jerrod Blandino has been teasing on Instagram for months will be arriving at HSN.com one week from today, on November 11th!
Based on Jerrod's post on Instagram, this will be a Today's Special, which means it will launch at midnight Eastern Standard Time on November 11th and run until 11:59pm the same day (for 24 hours or until it sells out). IF it doesn't sell out, and that's a BIG if, it may still be available on the site but the price may be a bit higher than the Today's Special price.

Speaking of price, I don't know what it's going to be since it hasn't been released yet, but because this is a Today's Special value set, I'm guessing it'll be pretty reasonable for what you're getting.

Here's what's included:

  • Funfetti Eyeshadow Palette of 12 brand new matte and shimmer shadows.
  • Funfetti Love Flush Blush
  • Funfetti Ultra Plush Lip Gloss
  • Better Than Sex Mascara
  • Heart-shaped Flatbuki Brush
I'm hoping the quality of the eyeshadow palette will be good, but if I'm being completely honest I want the whole set just for that Funfetti blush!!!

Will you be picking this up at HSN.com next Friday?

QVC Beauty Advent Calendar Unboxing

The QVC Beauty Christmas Advent Calendar ($63.96) is back for 2016 and I look forward to it every year because it's filled with so many amazing products to try. This year, QVC was kind enough to send me one to try so I'm really happy to be able to show it to you guys up close!

Now, the point of a traditional Advent Calendar is to open one window each day for the 24 days leading up to Christmas, but I totally cheated and opened up everything already...and I wouldn't blame you if you did the same thing! If you're the one purchasing it, you already know what's inside anyway because it shows the products on the website, however if you're giving this as a gift it would be a fantastic surprise for a makeup & beauty lover in your life.

Let's take a look!

Fall Palette Round-Up + My Favorites

best palettes of 2016
When I look back on the past couple of months, I can't believe the amount of palettes I've tried and reviewed! It seems like these days, makeup brands are constantly launching new palettes, which makes it really hard to choose just one or two...especially when you're on a budget.

I've been getting a lot of questions from you guys, both here on the blog and also on Instagram wondering if one palette is worth buying over another, so I thought I'd do a round-up post so you can see everything in one place. Keep in mind, this doesn't include every palette that launched this fall, only the ones I've personally tried..

Let's get started!

The Ciate x Chloe Morello Beauty Haul is Now at Sephora!

A lot of you have been asking me if the Ciate x Chloe Morello Beauty Haul would be available at Sephora and great news...it just launched today!
I reviewed this set a few weeks ago (see my review here) and this is definitely one of my must-haves of the holiday season. I feel like many of the holiday palettes were disappointing in terms of quality  but this one is beautiful (and it comes with a palette, mascara, liquid lipstick, and makeup bag for $49).
If you haven't tried Ciate's makeup line yet, this is the perfect way to sample a few different products.

*Also, there are some new freebie codes available at Sephora that you can add with a $25+ purchase

Lorac Holiday 2016 Arrives at Ulta

If you're a Lorac fan, head over to Ulta.com and Ulta stores today to get your hands on the new Holiday 2016 collection!

The Holiday collection includes:

  • Mocktail Mixer Pro Matte Lipcolor Set ($28)- I haven't tried these matte lip crayons yet, but this set is a great deal so I might have to pick it up so I can try a few shades at once. It includes three, full sized limited edition shades in pretty white and rose gold packaging!
  • A Lavish Affair Alter Ego Lip Gloss Collection ($25)- Includes 6 full sized Alter Ego lip glosses which regularly retail for $16 each! I love these lip glosses because they're really pigmented and not sticky at all. This set includes the shade Goddess, which is a really pretty lavender mauve shade...one of my faves (I reviewed and swatched it here)
  • Mega Pro Palette 3 ($59)- A total must-have in my opinion! See my full review here.
  • Cue The Confetti Highlighter & Blush Palette w/Brush ($30)- Lorac's Color Source Blushes and Highlighters are some of my absolute favorites due to their soft, finely milled formula and great pigmentation. This palette includes three blushes and a highlighter (for some reason, the blush in Tinge looks really light in this photo, like a highlighter. It's actually a really beautiful barely there nude shade and one of my everyday favorites!) This set is actually a great deal since the .17 oz. full sizes retail for $22 each and each of these is only slightly smaller at .15 oz! It also comes with a rose gold blush brush!

What are you getting?

Ciate x Chloe Morello Beauty Haul Review & Swatches

I recently saw the new Ciate London x Chloe Morello Beauty Haul ($49) collab on Instagram and even though I've never tried Ciate's makeup (only their nail polishes), I've always wanted to try more from the brand. This set comes with three different products, including an eyeshadow palette (that has to-die-for shades), their best selling Wonderwand mascara, and a mini Liquid Velvet lipstick in the shade Pin Up so I thought it would be a great introduction to the brand!

Read on for my thoughts...

Tarte Color Wheel Blush Palette First Impressions

Being the blush junkie that I am, the Tarte Amazonian Clay Color Wheel Blush Palette ($44) was one of the Holiday 2016 releases that I was most excited about! I am a huge fan of Tarte's blushes and own all of the shades in the permanent collection, as well as other holiday palettes from years past, so clearly I don't need any more...however, the idea of having ten shades all in one travel-friendly compact is definitely appealing!

Let's take a look!

bareMinerals The Wish List READY 12.0 Eyeshadow Palette Review

bareMinerals released two new palettes for Holiday 2016, and I recently reviewed the Be Beautiful Face Palette (see that post here). So today I wanted to talk about The Wish List READY 12.0 Eyeshadow Palette ($45) which is currently available at Ulta.com.

7 New Sephora Favorites Sets Available Now!

Sephora just launched seven brand new Favorites sets this morning and oh my gosh...some of these are really tempting! As always, if one (or more) of these interests you, don't wait too long because they have a tendency to sell out quickly.  Here are all the details:

bareMinerals Be Beautiful READY Face & Eye Palette Review

I only recently discovered bareMinerals eyeshadow palettes and I absolutely love them so I was really excited to see two new Holiday 2016 versions arrive on the Ulta website recently. I hauled a few new products and first one I couldn't wait to open when the Ulta box arrived was the Be Beautiful READY Face & Eye Palette ($45).

Becca Blushed With Light Palette- Ulta Platinum Perk

Today only...if you're an Ulta Platinum member, you have access to the new Becca Blushed With Light Palette ($34), which features three blushes in a pretty compact.

Two of the shades Songbird and Snapdragon are already existing shades (Songbird is one of their Mineral Blushes and Snapdragon is a Shimmering Skin Perfector Blush). Wisteria is a brand new shade and is the Mineral blush formula in a delicate rose shade.

Here's some swatches of the shades in this palette from @trendmood1 on Instagram

I don't own any of Becca's blushes but have always wanted to try them so I think I'm going to pick this up!

If you're Platinum, this is available today only. Otherwise, the Blushed With Light palette will launch online at Ulta.com on September 26 and will be in stores October 20th.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette Review & Swatches

I've been dying to get my hands on the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette ($54) ever since the launch was announced over the summer...but waiting until September 18th was so hard! Thanks so much to my pal Annie (@drugstoredreamer on Instagram), who let me know that she found it early at her local Macy's store a few weeks ago. So I headed over to the mall and was able to find it in the little Impulse kiosk that's in the beauty department. I was really excited because I still had a $42 merchandise credit from a return I made over the summer and I was able to get this for $12!

So definitely check your local Macy's first...you might get lucky because I've talked to quite a few people from different areas of the country saying that they were able to find it. But if not, the official release dates are as follows:

Before we even get into the shadows themselves, can we just talk about how beautiful the packaging is for a minute?! It's gold and shiny and has an ethereal starburst pattern that's raised to give it some texture. It's also a square, which is different from the rectangular packaging Urban Decay has become known for (with the exception of the Naked on the Run palette...remember that one?).
Inside, there's a really nice, large, high-quality mirror that you can easily do your makeup in. Also included is a double-ended brush which I'm not really too impressed with. The smaller end is great...it's an awesome smudger brush that you can get right up to your lashline with, but the larger end is kind of stiff and is a weird shape. It's on the longer side like a blending brush, but the flat shape doesn't really allow you to blend with it. It's shaped sort of like a lid brush, but those are usually a little shorter. I don't know...I'm just not a fan.

Also, in case you're wondering, the palette is made in the USA and the brush is made in China.

Inside are twelve matte shades...well almost, because there is one shade, Blow (light nude demi-matte) that has a slight sheen to it.
There is a nice mix of both warm and cool-toned neutrals in here with the top row being on the cooler side with pinky nudes, gray, and purples and the bottom row leaning more warm with pale yellow, burnt orange, warm browns, charcoal, and black.
Swatching this palette, I found all of the shades to be creamy and soft. They are densely packed so there isn't a lot of fallout, and I find that they blend really nicely on my eyes when using a brush. My only complaint with the top row is that the shades aren't as rich as I thought they would be...especially Commando, Tempted, and Instinct (I had to swatch them a few times as opposed to the other shades that were swatched once. They appear more muted on my skin and although they do show up on me because I'm fair skinned, they might disappear on medium to deeper skin tones.

  • Blow- Light nude demi matte
  • Nudie- Soft pink-nude matte
  • Commando- Light taupe brown matte
  • Tempted- Pale brown matte
  • Instinct- Medium pink taupe matte
  • Lethal- Reddish brown matte

The shades in the bottom row are rich, pigmented and beautiful. They all show up easily with one swipe (and no primer underneath). I was especially impressed with Extra Bitter, the burnt orange shade...it's super intense, just as I was hoping it would be.

  • Pre-Game- Pale yellow matte
  • Extra Bitter- Burnt orange matte
  • Faith- Medium warm brown matte
  • Lockout- Rich neutral brown matte
  • Magnet- Smoky gray matte
  • Blackjack- Warm black matte

Overall, this is a solid offering from Urban Decay, and matte eyeshadow lovers will most likely love it from the beautiful packaging to the creamy, pigmented formula! If you have a medium to deep skin tone, you might be disappointed with the color payoff a few of the shadows in the top row, but the bottom row definitely makes up for that a bit.

Grab yours on September 18th at Urbandecay.com and on September 20th at Ulta.com, Sephora.com.

Laura Mercier Fall In Love Face Illuminator Collection Review

When I went to the Sephora VIB Rouge sale last Saturday, I had every intention of buying the new Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Trio but when I swatched it, I was really disappointed...it was all glitter and no color with a dry texture. Then I spotted the Laura Mercier Fall in Love Face Illuminator Collection ($58) and was instantly impressed by the soft, creamy texture of the powders and the finely milled, shimmery (not glittery) finish. So even though this little palette cost as much as the entire Too Faced Chocolate Shop set, I couldn't resist splurging on it.

Now that I've had it home for a few days, do I love it as much as I did when I first bought it? Read on to hear my thoughts...
The Fall in Love Illuminator Palette comes in a leopard-print plastic compact that's really chic and simple. There's no writing or logos at all on the front side and the back has the shade names, weight information, and country of origin which is Italy.
Inside are Laura's four illuminators, and they're about a third of the size of the full-sized versions, which are $44 each. These work out to about $14.60 each, which ends up being $58.60. So cost-wise, you're not really saving anything but it's not overpriced either.
In fact, I rarely ever hit pan on a highlighter so for me, buying full sizes can be a waste of money. I've always wanted to try Laura Mercier's highlighters so I felt like this was the perfect way to try all four shades without spending $176 on the full sizes.
The four shades included are:

  • Indiscretion- Warm rose gold highlight
  • Addiction- Gilded Gold Highlight
  • Devotion- Cool Highlight
  • Seduction- Soft Bronze Highlight

Unfortunately, I should have known by looking at the palette that 3 of these shades would be too dark for my fair skin, but I was temporarily blinded by the beautiful texture of these...and the fact that I've always wanted to try Laura Mercier's Face Illuminator formula. I suppose I could use them as eyeshadows, but I'm honestly debating whether to keep this or not. I probably won't use it that much for myself, but as a blogger, I feel like I should have this in my collection to do comparison swatches in the future. So I'm kind of up in the air about whether I should bring it back.

As I was swatching the shades, I thought I noticed some similarities between these shades and a few of the shades in the NYX Strobe of Genius palette. So I pulled that out to do some comparison swatching (speaking of comparisons...haha!).
As it turns out, there are no perfect matches but I was able to get pretty close with three out of four shades! The Laura Mercier shades go on a little bit richer and deeper but once they're sheered out on your face, you can't really tell the difference.

Overall, if you own the NYX Strobe of Genius palette or have fair to light skin, you may want to skip this one. But if you're looking for a luxury highlighting palette to give as a gift (or to splurge on for yourself), this is a great choice. The formula is excellent and it's a much less expensive option than buying all four of the full sizes. I feel that these will last a long time since a little goes a long way and the pans are still a pretty generous size.

You can find the Laura Mercier Fall in Love Face Illuminator Collection now at Sephora.com

Too Faced The Chocolate Shop Holiday Set Review

I  picked up the brand new holiday set from Too Faced at the Sephora VIB Rouge event this past Saturday and I'm so glad I did! The Chocolate Shop ($58) is the perfect gift for anyone who loves Too Faced (or makeup in general) and is also a great way to get acquainted with the brand if you don't own anything from them yet. It's got it all...eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eye primer, mascara, and a lipstick, for only a few dollars more than the cost of an eyeshadow palette. Not to mention everything is chocolate scented (well, except the mascara or primer)!

Let's take a look!

The packaging is beautiful! The set comes in a pink box complete with a festive scene of snowflakes falling over New York on the front and on the back it has all of the ingredients and information about what's inside.

This year's theme is Christmas in New York (last year was Paris, I think) and I may be biased as a native New Yorker, but for me, there's no better place to be around the holidays than New York City. If you've never been, it's definitely something you'll want to experience if you get the chance.

Anyway, back to the product! After you open the outer box, the set comes in another box that's made out of really sturdy thick cardboard. It has a lid and when you open it...
...the entire set folds out into a little 3D chocolate shop scene and looks like this:

The part that stands up has deluxe sizes of the Shadow Insurance Eyeshadow Primer, Better Than Sex Mascara, and Melted Chocolate Liquid Lipstick in Milkshake (a cocoa nude shade). In the bottom section of the set is the palette.

The packaging of the set is pretty large and bulky and would be difficult to store, so thankfully everything is removeable if you don't want to save the whole thing. The palette itself is very thin and flat with a magnetic closure, so it'll be easy to slip into a drawer.  However, it is wider than a typical eyeshadow palette (it's about 7.5" x 6.5").

When I first opened the palette, I was hit with that delicious chocolate scent! To me it actually smells like hot cocoa mix...it's chocolate but there's also that powdery element to it. This set is made in the USA and seems to be the regular Too Faced formula, which is awesome! Sometimes holiday sets can be hit or miss so I was happy to see that this one didn't skimp on quality.

To be honest, there are some dud shades but everything else had great pigmentation.. The metallic shades have a lot of fallout though...I'm talking lots of chunky flakes coming up, but I guess that's often the case with really glittery shadows so it didn't bother me.

The first two rows are more cool-toned eyeshadows and neutral with a mix of matte, shimmer, and glittery shades. At the end of the row is a pretty peachy gold highlighter called Inner Light. The only shade I had issues with was Cookie Dough...it seemed a little bit drier than the others and I had to really build it to get it to show up. I'm not sure if that's because it's so close to my skin color or if it's just not that pigmented. Otherwise, these are gorgeous!

Left to Right: Dessert's On Me, Indulge, Cookie Dough, Raspberry Rose, Sugared Raisin, Guilt-Free, Tootsie, & Inner Light (highlighter).
Rows 3 and 4 are warmer toned eyeshadows and include the Chocolate Soleil bronzer. The only shade I wasn't too impressed with in this row was Glaze (matte white cream)...it applied a bit patchy/streaky. Otherwise these shades are really pretty! The shimmer shades Gingerdoodle and Butterscotch are standouts in that they were extremely buttery, soft, and pigmented.

Left to Right: Glaze, Gingerdoodle, Chocoholic, Cake Batter, Butterscotch, Toffee Crunch, Lava Cake, Chocolate Soleil (bronzer).
Rows 5 & 6 contain brighter, bolder shades as well as a candy pink blush. Every shade in these two rows is beautiful and highly pigmented, with mostly shimmer finishes.

Left: Banana Date, Honey Dip, Pound Cake, Sugar Bells, Mint Chip, Jingle Berry, Huckleberry, Chocolate Covered Strawberry (blush).
The Melted Chocolate lipstick in Milkshake is described as "nude cocoa ink" and it's a warmer nude that won't make you look washed out. It also smells just like chocolate...yum!

Overall, I really like the Too Faced Chocolate Shop! The packaging is adorable and the quality is better than holiday sets I've tried in the past (although it's not quite as good as their permanent eyeshadow palettes). You are getting a lot here though, so it's a great value. A Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette is $49 for sixteen shades and here you're getting 21 eyeshadows, a blush, a bronzer, and a highlighter, plus deluxe-sized mascara, eyeshadow primer and lipstick for only $9 more.

If you're going to grab one of the new Holiday sets, I recommend this one!
