For those who want to add some subtle sophistication to their look, try a light shade of pink. The soft hue will add a touch of elegance to any makeup look, and will also look great on darker skin tones. On the other hand, those with lighter skin can try a bold red for a statement-making look. Reds look best when paired with a matte finish, and will last much longer than other shades.

If you are looking for something a bit more dramatic yet still subtle, consider berry-colored lipsticks. These hues range from light to deep and have a beautiful, rich finish. They look especially nice on those with an olive complexion, and can be paired with warm eyeshadow shades to create a cohesive look.

Regardless of your skin tone, nude lipsticks will help to create a natural look that is totally on-trend. They are also great for people who don’t feel comfortable wearing more traditional lip colors. All shades of nude are perfect for creating that no-makeup look, while the range of beiges and browns will flatter all skin tones.

How I tested the best red lipsticks for Asian skin?

After I used these lipsticks for an entire day, I rated them on a scale of 1-5 based on the following parameters.

  • Color Payoff – Firstly, I checked how strong the color pigment is and whether is looks on your lips as advertised. And if the lipstick gives good coverage in one swipe.
  • Longevity – Next, I looked at how long the lipstick stays on your lips. I ate and drank and spend my day outdoors when I tried out these lipsticks. So I checked if it smudges easily or is water and sweat-proof.
  • Lip Care – Now I believe a lipstick must nourish your lips as well and not leave them dry and cracked. So I checked if the products had any moisturizing properties and if they acted as lip care too!

Top Red Lipstick For Asian Skin

Let’s dive into these products to find out which one is the best!

1. Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick (Red Revival)

Best for light skin

It’s a no-brainer I reviewed the Maybelline Red Revival lipstick first! It’s one of the best drugstore lipstick brands out there and I’ve been a loyal customer for ages.

If you have a fairer complexion and seek a really bold deep red that compliments your skin, this is the exact one for you! But honestly, it looks great on my wheatish skin tone too.

Although it’s just a tad darker than that true Hollywood bright red, you can totally use a brownish lip liner to fill in the lines for a more defined look. This is how it looked on my hand!

I was in love with the texture. I like how the lipstick is on the creamy side of the brand, therefore easily and smoothly applied without many stains. It did create a little shine on my lips, but if you don’t want that just use a napkin and wipe it away.

But if you’re looking for a matte or even a satin finish you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Speaking of disappointment, the color payoff…. urghhh! I needed to use this lipstick 3-4 times to get a dark, deep red color. So I really wish it was more pigmented.

If you’re applying just one stroke, you might find the lipstick looks more like a deep pink than red. So get ready for reapplications. Often.

So why should you still consider it? The price. It’s really affordable. If you’re not too much into makeup and want a starter red lipstick, this would do. It’s great for teens as well.

Others? I’d definitely suggest investing in the Mac Russian Red or Ruby Woo!

Things I liked:

  • It’s versatile shade makes it suitable for medium/light skin
  • Formula is smooth on application and doesn’t bleed or smudge
  • Doesn’t dry out lips as it contains shea butter
  • Light vanilla scent that is no too overwhelming

Things I didn’t like:

  • Not too pigmented and requires multiple applications
  • Fades to deep pink for some people

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 3.5/5
  • Longevity – 4/5
  • Lip Care – 4/5

2. L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour (British Red)

Best bright red

If you usually lean more on the orange side of lipstick, you’d like British Red. It’s not my first choice of lipsticks, but a lot of our readers were recommending me to review this one, so here goes!

I didn’t hate the color. It’s just like any other bright red, but with a hint of orange in it. I find the color looks outstanding, both in a dark party and on an afternoon picnic. So very versatile that way.

Girls with really fair or medium/light complexion would enjoy this more than darker girls, though. It didn’t look as good as MAC’s Russian Red or Stila’s Beso looked on my wheatish skin. So it’s really a matter of opinion.

One thing I liked about the lipstick is that it glides on your lips like butter. The formula is rich in Omega 3, and vitamin E so I wasn’t surprised at how nourishing and hydrating it felt on my lips.

The color payoff is fantastic and you don’t need multiple applications of this lipstick. But it’s not very long-lasting. It has a satin finish which is supposed to be between cream and matte but it definitely has a more creamy finish.

I found that I needed to reapply the lipstick in just 3 hours of application, and I could see it transfer to my morning coffee cup, so that was a huge disappointment.

All in all, I’d suggest this lipstick for people with sensitive, dry lips who would wear it for just a few hours of a party or outing.

Things I liked:

  • The pigments in the formula are very strong and give a bold color
  • Compliments most skin tones from light to dark Asian skin
  • The lipstick gives a satin finish which looks matte but is very hydrating
  • Vitamin E and argan oil moisturize lips

Things I didn’t like:

  • Scent is too overpowering and not to everyone’s taste
  • Not long-lasting as it can smudge in just 3-4 hours of application

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4.5/5
  • Longevity – 3/5
  • Lip Care – 4.5/5

3. stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (Beso)

Best matte lipstick

I generally prefer liquid lipsticks when I’m having a busy day as they tend to stay on longer. And this was the case with the Stila red lipstick. (I got the shade Beso!).

It had a very smooth formula, and I just needed one stroke to get the rich, bright red color. And I also found I didn’t need a lip liner with it as it doesn’t transfer or bleed at all. So far so good!

I also give it bonus points as this shade is suitable for girls of all skin color, and that includes Asian girls with different complexions and undertones.

What I liked about the creamy matte formula is that the product sets into my lips really quickly, and then it stays on all day long. I did not need to do constant touch-ups even after ate and drank a lot.

It’s my go-to lipstick for work actually!

But is it perfect? Nope! The matte formula is super long-lasting but it has its drawbacks. It can get very drying. Yes, despite the avocado oil in the formula this lipstick was quite drying. I found myself aching to add a layer of vaseline on my lips.

So dry and chapped lip girlies, maybe this one isn’t for you.

Things I liked:

  • Contains avocado oil that moisturizes lips
  • The lipstick dries down a matte finish that is smudge and transfer-proof
  • Suitable for all Asian skin colors
  • Long-lasting formula that won’t fade for upto 8 hours (yes, even with eating and drinking!)

Things we didn’t like:

  • A bit drying on lips as it is a matte finish

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4.5/5
  • Longevity – 5/5
  • Lip Care – 3.5/5

4. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (Dragon Girl)

Best for outdoor events

This color is the perfect balance between deep red and rosy pink. Not too bold and still incredibly pretty and flattering, Dragon Girl might just be the perfect shade for a wedding or a cute outdoor event. Asian Girls with all types of skin can pull off this one, and it’s not too pink for those with darker complexions.

The packaging is super convenient for carrying around, and very easy to apply. Just line your lips with it on top of another red matte, or fill in your lips with it as normal lipstick. You’ll find the non-drying factor a godsend, too!

Thing I liked

  • Pretty, outdoor color
  • Suitable for all complexions
  • Nice packaging
  • Smooth and creamy

Things I didn’t like

  • Not too long-lasting
  • Expensive for little product

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4.5/5
  • Longevity – 3/5
  • Lip Care – 4/5

5. MAC Matte Lipstick (Russian Red)

Best for everyday

Let’s take the attention of the legendary Ruby Woo and look at another amazing color for Asian girls from MAC. This color is an instant classic. The bold, bright red color with a creamy matte finish that guarantees everyone’s attention at you in an instant. By the way, did you know that Madonna is rumored to have worn this on her Blonde Ambition tour?

This finish is full matte, and while the product is indeed long-lasting, you will still probably see transfer on your cups or bottle that you’re drinking from. Also, the color has a certain amount of shine to it.

Thing I liked

  • Flattering and gorgeous color
  • Suitable for Asian skin
  • Creamy matte
  • Quite long-wearing

Things I didn’t like

  • Still transfers
  • Little product

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4.5/5
  • Longevity – 4.5/5
  • Lip Care – 4/5

6. Fenty Beauty Uncensored

Touted as the perfect universal red lipstick, I was hesitant about it at first. But this shade is one of the best I have ever owned.

The red is flattering on my skin tone and it is a strong vibrant colour that will look good on anyone in my opinion. It is perfect for a night out partying due to its stunning colour. You can apply it and forget that it is there because it is just so weightless on the lips.

The applicator surprised me as it made lipstick application super easy. One swipe was enough for complete coverage. The only issues I faced was the lip paint felt dehydrating after a while and the colour bled without a liner. It is also on the expensive side.

What I Liked

  • Long-lasting
  • Stunning universal red
  • Lightweight formula
  • Unique applicator for quick and even application
  • Creamy consistency

What I Didn’t Like

  • Moisture doesn’t last long
  • Smudges and bleeds easily
  • Expensive

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4.5/5
  • Longevity – 4/5
  • Lip Care – 4/5

7. Peripera Ink Airy Velvet Lipstick

A creamy lipstick that was fun to apply on my lips. This was my first time trying a Peripera lipstick and now I am hooked to it because it’s simply amazing. It gives a matte look although it feels super smooth on the lips. The lipstick is light on the lips so it is good for people like me who love weightless lipsticks. It fills lip cracks well.

What I didn’t like about the Peripera Ink Airy Velvet lipstick was that it was dehydrating. My lips are already dry and I assumed that the lipstick would be moisturising enough. I was wrong. My lips felt pretty dry so next time I will try to apply chapstick before applying the lipstick to see how that goes.

What I Liked:

  • Easy to apply
  • Creamy texture
  • Stunning matte and powder finish
  • Quality is excellent
  • Affordable
  • Light on lips

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Drying after some time
  • Comes off after a meal

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 3.5/5
  • Longevity – 3.5/5
  • Lip Care – 4/5

8. Bobbi Brown Candied Red Lipstick

Bobbi Brown lipsticks have been my all-time faves and I must say I was not disappointed when I tried this one. The Candied red lipstick complements all skin tones and it brightens my face. I love the pigment of this lipstick. It gives my lips a slight gloss effect without being over-the-top glam. I was afraid it might make my lips look cakey but that didn’t happen at all.

The lipstick isn’t suitable for partying all night long because it comes off easily. If you eat or drink, the lipstick will transfer. If you don’t mind reapplying then it can work for you. It has to be used with a lip liner because otherwise the lipstick will bleed and it will ruin your look.

What I Liked

  • Classic red shade for all skin tones
  • Impressive pigment
  • Incredible colour payoff
  • Soft sheen to it which
  • Moisturising and nourishing
  • Soft matte finish

What I Didn’t Like

  • Didn’t last long
  • Needs to be used with a lip liner

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4/5
  • Longevity – 3.5/5
  • Lip Care – 4/5

9. Pony Effect Powdery Whisper Lipstick

I was intrigued about this powder finish lipstick because I never tried one before. The lipstick glides like a charm and is lightweight on the lips. It has a soft vanilla scent that is wonderful.

It is highly pigmented so just a layer or two will do and the consistency is creamy. You can build the lipstick to give more definition to your lips without your lips looking dry. The wide range of colours is perfect for different occasions.

For those with extreme dry lips, the formula isn’t hydrating enough though so applying chapstick beforehand is recommended. Don’t expect the lipstick to stay post a meal because it won’t! It is a good purchase though for those who are curious.

What I Liked:

  • Smooth to apply
  • Weightless lipstick
  • Lovely vanilla scent
  • Buildable for more definition
  • Hydrating and moisturising

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Comes off after a meal
  • Not for people with extremely dry lips

My Ratings:

  • Color Payoff – 4.5/5
  • Longevity – 4/5
  • Lip Care – 3/5

Best looks with red lipstick for Asian girls

Let’s paint the town red once in a while. No color looks as glamorous and yet so cute on Asian skin as red lipstick. Take a look at these red lip looks with recommendations on additional features.

best red lipstick for asian skin

1. Natural light red everyday

Maybe try a pink red creamy lipstick with a satin finish for an everyday look. If you don’t want to overdo it, just simply apply the lipstick onto your inner lips and blend it out, don’t fill in your lips fully. This will help create a healthy, vibrant look without being too bold and bright.

Use a little bit of blush, or just put some lipstick on your cheeks and use it anyway. Fill your brows and go for some eyeliner if you have the mood.

2. Holiday festive bright red

best red lipstick for asian skin

You’d want to go full matte with this one. You could use a bluish red liquid lipstick for that matte finish, or take it up a notch and use a deep berry or wine red to compliment your skin. Either way, you will look radiant and captivating as ever, especially when seeing relatives on these occasions.

If your complexion is more golden and caramel, berry and wine reds are fine too, but also consider applying a brown or brick red to look more luxurious.

Some orange or red eyeshadows will go well with this gorgeous, shiny lip color.

3. Party glossy and shiny red

Getting dressed up for parties is no joke. You might wanna skip your rosy everyday red and go for something full glam and breathtaking.

Maybe try out some glossy makeup look and use a shiny bright red lip color, coupled with some killer highlighter? An orange-red color can really make you stand out in the crowd too.

It’s a party, so go extra with the eyeshadows as well. Some glittery and shiny neutral colors work wonders with bold red lips.

Check out a favorite red lip makeup look you can try out on any occasion.

Final Thoughts on Choosing Asian Skin Red Lipstick

Among all the beautiful lip colors above with different shades, if it were up to me, I’d definitely pick Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick (Red Revival). It’s personally the best red lipstick for Asian skin that I could wear for great events.
