I’ve been hearing so many raves about the Makeup Revolution New-trals vs. Neutrals Palette ($10) and I’ve been wanting to buy it but kept forgetting every time I placed an Ulta.com order. Well guess what? An Ulta just opened up near my house…finally! So now you guys won’t have to hear me complain that I don’t have access to an Ulta store, haha! 🙂 Anyway, I’ve already been there a few times and this palette is one of the first things I grabbed when I visited the new store.
I’ve been a huge fan of Makeup Revolution for years and used to order their products from the UK (before they were at Ulta) and overall I’ve had a great experience with them. So did this palette live up to my expectations? Let’s take a look…
I have to say, the shade selection in this palette is gorgeous! It reminds me a lot of the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette…not that I would really call it a dupe but it has a very similar color theme. The top row has those warm, peachy, rosy tones that are super hot right now, while the bottom row has more traditional earth-toned neutrals.
There’s a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades in this palette as well. It has enough variation that you can create a complete look with just this palette…it has highlight shades, matte transitions/crease, and lid colors.
It also comes with a double-ended brush rather than one of those sponge-tipped applicators and it’s a nice touch, especially for a $10 palette. It’s honestly not the best brush in the world, but it’s nice to have in a pinch.
As beautiful as this palette is, I did have a bit of a hard time picking up some of the shades, whether it was with my finger or a brush. The shimmers are buttery and pigmented but they’re also crumbly and many of them create a bit of fallout. The matte shades are drier, dustier and not as pigmented. On bare skin (no primer) the color payoff didn’t blow me away. Still, it’s better than drugstore palettes like Maybelline or Revlon at a similar price point.
Over primer, the shades fare quite a lot better. I do feel like you need primer with this palette, not just to make the colors more vibrant but also to make them last longer. Without a base to adhere to, they seem to wear away very quickly.
Despite the issues with pigmentation, this is a beautiful palette…especially for the price. The quality is still better than a lot of drugstore palettes (though it’s not high-end quality). I definitely recommend using primer with this one if you want it to show up and last a while on your eyelids.
What do you think? Are you a fan of this palette?
You can find the New-Trals vs. Neutrals Palette at Ulta stores and Ulta.com
There’s a new brand called Bairly Sheer that’s now exclusively at Ulta and it’s a range of spray-on, airbrush products that are at a great price point of $12.99 each. It’s not just foundations either…they have a spray on blush, body blemish cover, pearl radiance for the body, plus a makeup sealant and a foundation primer. Let’s take a look…
I’ve included a short 30-second video on each product that shows how to use it (you can watch it right in this post, it won’t take you off my blog).
Bairly Sheer Spray-On Foundation ($12.99) is a buildable, blendable light-to-medium formula with creamy minerals that minimize imperfections, lines and texture without drying out the skin. It claims to last 18 hours too!
Bairly Sheer Spray-On Blush ($12.99)- A spray-on blush is something totally new to me, especially since in the how-to video, it shows the model spraying it directly on her cheeks. I assumed you would have to spray it on a sponge or into your hand first…interesting. It comes in three shades and is a water-based formula ideal for sensitive skin.
Bairly Sheer Spray-On Body Blemish Cover-Up ($12.99)- This comes in 10 shades and is lightweight and buildable. It claims to be sweat and water proof and cover hyperpigmentation, tattoos, bruises, varicose veins and more.
Bairly Sheer Spray-On Mist Body Shimmer ($12.99)- This shimmer comes in 4 shadesand claims to leave a subtle, natural glow to the skin. I wonder how shimmery it is…if it’s more of a natural glow like they say, I’d be interested in this one…otherwise not so much.
Bairly Sheer Spray-On Waterproof Makeup Sealant ($12.99)- This makeup sealing spray is supposed to keep makeup in place for 18-24 hours and makes it sweat-proof, water-proof, and tear-proof.
Bairly Sheer Spray-On Primer ($12.99)- This primer hydrates to prevent dryness and soften fine lines and texture for a smooth, flawless canvas. The water-based spray contains olive and Vitamin E extracts for an antioxidant boost.
What do you guys think? Do these interest you and if so, which ones? I kind of want to try them all!
I was in Walgreens today and was surprised to see Secret Extensions ($39.99)! I caved into the infomercial when I saw it last summer and ordered one…then a few months later, I ordered a second one when I found out they can be doubled up for more thickness.
I absolutely love these for adding volume and a little length to my fine, thin hair. Its as easy as putting on a headband and it’s totally undetectable! You can read my full review here.
I’m so excited to see these hit the stores because now that my hair is darker, I’d like to buy a brown shade and being able to see it in person is awesome!
Have you tried Secret Extensions yet? Or are you planning to? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
